A review of Delhi Metro

Ed shared the video on Instagram, writing in the caption, “Why let yourself get scammed by Tuk Tuk drivers when you can get the metro in Delhi?” Commonly known as autos or auto rikshaws in India, the vehicles are often referred to as Tuk Tuks in other parts of the world.

The video starts with Ed standing on a platform of a Metro station on the Blue Line, waiting for a metro heading to Dwarka. The writing on the screen read, “First impressions of Delhi Metro”.

Holding his phone, he looks directly into the camera and says, “Not enough is being said about Delhi’s metro system.”

He can be seen walking along the platform on Yamuna Gate station, next to the tracks, and continues, “You assume when you come to Delhi, it’s going to be Tuk Tuk drivers trying to rip you off, smelly, trash everywhere.”

He cuts to a visual of the metro recorded from the platform, adding, “What no one tells you is they’ve got a very clean, efficient, reliable, and well-connected metro system.”

Now inside the metro, he continues, “Tickets cost twenty rupees. And it’s even got AC.”

Ed is also surprised at the station itself. He shows the multiple eateries and retail stores at a station and exclaims, “Stations have even got KFC, a coffee shop, and wait for it, a Crocs and an Adidas store.”

In the next bit, Ed can be seen at the iconic India Gate. Continuing his review of the metro, he shares, “You can use it to get around Delhi and get to some of the major sites like the India Gate.”

Finally, he can be seen at the Mandi House station and he surmises, “So next time you’re in Delhi, instead of getting scammed by a Tuk Tuk driver, think about getting the Metro instead.”

How did social media react

Indian Instagram users were quick to dole out praises for the railway system in Delhi, with some also tagging the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), and appreciating this mode of transportation.

“Best metro all the way. Fast, reliable, clean and secure. With army personnel on every station,” a user wrote, while another welcomed the guest of the country, commenting, “Welcome in India my brother”.

Another user also compared the Delhi Metro to the London tube: “Delhi’s Metro system is 100 times more reliable, clean & efficient than NYC Subway or London Underground .!!”

Others also pointed out the efficient public transportation in other Indian states. One shared, “Same in Mumbai. Try local or metro instead of taxi or rikshaw. It’s too expensive for a rikshaw or taxi.”

Another praised the recent infrastructural developments in the country: “Too many options for food, utilities everywhere which is very good development in the recent times. These amenities weren’t available 10 years ago.”
